Schools Universal Emergency Procedures

 

Lockdown:  Action taken for Instructor/Weapons.  Secures the building and safely shelters all students, staff, and visitors inside the school building.  No one moves unless Law Enforcement directs them to.

Reverse Evacuation:  Action taken when outside the school is unsafe.  All perimeter doors are secured around the school.  Classes resume as normal, but no one goes outside.

Evacuation:  Action taken for Fire or Bomb Threat.  Requires students, staff, and visitors to exit an unsafe school building.

Shelter-In-Place:  Action taken for Chemical/Hazmat/Biological Materials.  Is a modification of a lockdown, which moves students, staff, and visitors away from rooms on the perimeter to safe areas within the school.  Classroom windows and doors are sealed with tape and plastic to prevent fumes from coming in.  HVAC system is shut down.

Severe Weather Safe Areas:  Action taken during Severe Weather.  Are designated locations within the school to seek shelter from severe weather.

Drop, Cover and Hold:  Action taken during an Earthquake.  Students drop to the floor, cover their face and head, hold onto a table or desk in order to maintain their present location/position.
