SC Children's Book Award Voting

Whitehall's 4th and 5th graders have been reading the Book Award Nominees since October.   The Anderson County Elections Board brought over the voting machines for those eligible readers to vote.  The students enjoyed using real voting machines.

Mrs. Yoshiko Moon is here as our Artist-In-Residence this week.  She will work with 4th graders each day to do art and to learn about the culture of Japan.  Each grade level will have a time to meet her.  Mrs. Moon is a native of Kobe, Japan.  She now resides in Honea Path.  Her lesson topics will include Japanese greetings, learning to write name in Japanese, origami, cartoon/manga/anime drawing, introducing traditional painting tools, Japanese calligraphy, sumi-e painting, Japanese tea ceremony, and kimono demonstration.

Great Kindness Challenge
Kindness comes in all colors! 
Kindness Matters! 
January 23-27 Whitehall participated in the 2017 Great Kindness Challenge. The school had different events all week long focusing on the positive effects of kindness. 
 Kind Coins for Pakistan is a global service project to help build a new school and peace center in Pakistan. Students at Whitehall donated $478.97!
 Each student received a Great Kindness Challenge Checklist on Monday, challenging them to perform as many kind deeds as they can in one week. Students performing the most kind deeds will have a picture taken in a special Kindness Frame.
 Essay Contest - Grades K – 1: Draw and write about 4 acts of kindness - Grades 3 – 5: Powered by Kindness – students write about the kindness adventure of a superhero who is powered by kindness
 Kindness Stations in Each Classroom- students wrote notes or letters of kindness to friends, teachers, parents, etc.
