    school bus
    Eligibility
Transportation is available for children who live 1.5 miles or more from their assigned school.  The distance a student lives from their assigned school is measured using the shortest route that may be traveled on publicly maintained roads from the front of the school to the front of the property of the student's legal residence.  Students residing within 1.5 miles may qualify for transportation if their neighborhood meets the State's hazardous transportation rating system.  For more information on this, please call Anderson School District Five's Transportation Services, (864) 260-5000 (ext 10287).

School transportation is provided to students who participate in vocational programs or approved classes not offered at their assigned school.

Pick up & Drop off Time Criteria
Transportation's main goal is to arrive at every bus stop on time safely.  All regular route elementary school buses will arrive at first stop by 6:30 am.  Students are asked to arrive at the bus stop 15 minutes prior to scheduled arrival time.  Buses will wait for students who are making an effort to catch the bus. However, this cannot happen continuously.  All buses will wait 10 minutes at the school in the afternoon for students to board.  Students are expected to proceed immediately to the buses.

    Route Design
Bus routes are created to enhance students' safety while maximizing route efficiency.  Stops are created that allow students to wait off the main roadway for the bus when possible.  Stops are also created to minimize students walking in highly traveled roadways for long distances without sidewalks. Stops are not placed on dead end streets whenever possible to minimize bus accidents.  (Backing is a very dangerous maneuver for a school bus).  Stops are spaced two-tenths of a mile apart to decrease the number of stops each bus will make on its route thus minimizing riding time for the students.

Students may be required to walk up to 2/10 of a mile to a bus stop.  Bus routes are designed to limit student ride time to no more than 55 minutes one-way.  If at all possible, however, most students ride under 45 minutes one-way.

    Parents Responsibility
It is the parent's responsibility to supervise their children between their home and the bus stop and when at the bus stop.  Kindergarten thru 3rd grade students who get off at a stop by themselves without other groups of students will not be allowed to get off the bus unless an authorized parent is at the drop off location.  If the parent of the K thru 3rd grader is not at the stop location when the bus arrives the student will be returned back to the school for the parent or guardian to pick the child up.
