2020 SUMMARY OF BENEFITS ENROLLMENT OPTIONS

  • General Information pertaining to all New Employees
     
    • All Permanent Full-Time employees working 30 hours or more per week are required (unless exempted by state law) to enroll in one of the State Retirement Plans and are eligible to enroll in any one or more of the insurance options listed below. 
     
    • Permanent Part-Time employees are also required to enroll in one of the State Retirement Plans, but only Permanent Part-Time teachers working at least 15 hours per week are eligible to enroll in health, dental, and vision (life, disability, and other options do not apply).  
     
    • Other part-time, temporary, or seasonal employees have the option of enrolling in a State Retirement Plan but are not otherwise eligible for insurance unless an average of 30 hours per week is worked over a specific measurement period (usually 12 months from the date of hire).
     
     
    All premiums for required and optional plans will be payroll deducted unless otherwise indicated.

    State Retirement Plans
    • SC Retirement Systems (SCRS) Traditional Defined Benefit Plan - Employer sponsored - Employee contributes 9.0% of gross salary - payroll deducted
    • SC Optional Retirement Plan (SC ORP) Defined Contribution Plan - Employer sponsored - Employee contributes 9.0% of gross salary - payroll deducted 

     

    Other Retirement Savings Plan Options

    • SC Deferred Compensation - Employee contributions only - payroll deducted - as little as $10 per check up to limits set by IRS for specific plan

    Life Insurance
    • State Basic Life Plan - $3,000 Term Life policy. (Free for employee IF enrolled in one of the state health plans)
    • State Optional Life Plan - Term Life available for a premium in increments of $10,000 up to 3x amount of annual salary rounded down to the nearest $10,000. (Premium is based on amount of coverage selected and age of employee)
    • State Dependent Life-Spouse - $10,000 or $20,000 Term Life policy (Premium is based on amount of coverage selected and age of employee)
    • State Dependent-Child(ren) - $15,000 Term Life policy on each child ($1.26 per month regardless of number of children covered)
    • Mutual of Omaha Life Insurance - $2,000 policy on all Full-Time employees (Free)
    • Mutual of Omaha Voluntary Life - Term Life available for a premium in increments of $15,000 up to $105,000 guaranteed issue without medical evidence.  (Premium is based on amount of coverage selected and age of employee)
    • Mutual of Omaha Dependent Life Rider-Spouse & Child(ren) - $5,000 or $10,000 Term Life on each dependent (Premium is $1.95 per month for 5K or $3.90 per month for $10K regardless of number of dependents covered: spouse and child(ren))
    • Colonial Whole Life-Employee - Guaranteed issue at Initial Enrollment period.  (Amount of coverage available and premium determined by employee and Colonial Life Representative) *Information packet available in Benefits Office
    • Colonial Whole Life-Spouse - Amount of coverage available and premium determined by employee and Colonial Life Representative) *Information packet available in Benefits Office

    Disability
    • Mutual of Omaha Short-Term Disability - Weekly benefit up to 13 weeks for qualified illnesses/non-work related injuries (Premium is determined by salary)
    • State Basic Long-Term Disability -  90-day plan pays 62.5% of monthly salary beginning 91st day up to $800 per month (Free to employees enrolled in a state health plan)
    • State Supplemental Long-Term Disability - Choose a 90 or 180-day plan pays 65% of monthly salary beginning 91st or 181st day (Premium is based on salary and age)
