Degrees and Certifications:

Kimberly Barnette

Hello my name is Kimberly Barnette and I am the art teacher for McLees Elementary. This is my 19th year teaching and I'm excited about the opportunities I have here at McLees. I graduated from Lander University in 2000 with my BA in Visual Art with a K12 certification. I took my first teaching job in Spartanburg School District 7 at ZL Madden Elementary. I taught at Madden for 5 years before moving back to Anderson to be close to family after having my first child. I then worked for the School District of Pickens County and taught at Dacusville Elementary for three years until the art position opened up here at McLees. It is wonderful to finally have my dream position in the same school district that I attended growing up. I am proud to say that I am a product of Centerville, Lakeside, and Westside! In 2009 I received my MEd in Divergent Learning from Columbia College. I love my job and it is wonderful to see the creativity and curiosity of my students at this stage in their education. My goal is always to help students tap into their creative potential and to learn to take risks in their art.  As for my life outside of school, I am unbelievably blessed. I have been married to my best friend, Brad for 15 years. He works for Coca-Cola. We have an 14 year old daughter Caroline who is such a smart, beautiful and crafty young lady. The two of us are always busy creating. We also have an 11 year old son, Brayden who is a little ball of energy. He loves sports and doing anything outdoors. We love spending time together playing games, sports and watching movies. We are members of New Prospect Baptist Church and we love our church family. We are very active in our small group and in the youth program.  I look forward to working with all the children of McLees and watching them grow into tomorrow's leaders.  This place is more than a building where we meet and learn things.  It's a second home and we are a family.  We are happy that you and your child(ren) are a part of this very special place!  Welcome to the new school year!
