Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Dana C. Craft

I graduated from Anderson University (it was Anderson College at the time) with an associate of Fine Arts, from Erskine College with a bachelors in Music Education and Elementary Education.  I also endorsed in Early Childhood. I was able to student teach at Calhoun.   After graduating from Erskine worked for a year at Iva Elementary and Starr-Iva Middle School and worked for two years as the director of the day-care at Trinity United Methodist Church.  The next year I returned to Calhoun as the music teacher and have been here for 30 years.  I also teach private piano and voice lessons in the afternoons at my home.

While at Calhoun I have been awarded a $20,000 Target 2000 grant and have been able to represent Calhoun as the grant coordinator for our Arts in Basic Curriculum/Arts in Education Grant through the SC Arts Commission.  We have received between $3000 to over $11,000 each year since 2005.  Our school has been able to enjoy the addition of a wide variety of instruments, arts supplies, props, and arts instruction materials as well as having from one to three artists-in-residence each year since then.  I attended the Curriculum Leadership Institute of the Arts at Lander University and have been able to attend many wonderful arts integration professional development programs at the Peace Center in Greenville and the Brooks Center in Clemson.  I received my masters in Administration and Supervision from Furman University through their cohort program with the district.  I couldn't have been able to do all of these things to advance myself and to get funds for our school without the support of my wonderful family:

Scott - My husband is a photographer at Crafts Photography.  He loves music more than I do.  He is a very talented musician.  He plays the keyboard and drums for our praise band that I also sing for at our church.  He also loves to play the guitar and is teaching guitar lessons in the evenings.  He and I were in the TL Hanna band together.  He played the drums and I played the flute.  We were also in the youth choir at the same church growing up.

Carvan Craft Rich - My oldest daughter attended Calhoun and had her mom for a music teacher.  She graduated from Western Carolina University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Environmental Science and a concentration in Professional Writing.  She hopes to write for an environmental magazine, like National Geographic.  She played the cello in the McCants and TL Hanna strings program.  She still enjoys playing her cello in her free time and loves to draw, paint, and write poems, short stories, and novels.  She is married to Steven Rich, a young man she met in college.  She lives in Cramerton NC and is working for Compass group in Charlotte NC

Bradlee - My youngest daughter also enjoyed music with her mom at Calhoun. She graduated from Tri-County Technical College with and Early Childhood certificate.  She has worked at Calhoun for the YMCA's after school program and floated between several schools but mostly at La France, and Mt. Lebanon Elementary YMCA after school programs.  She also worked for the child watch program at the Anderson Are YMCA in the summers and during the holidays.  She is currently working for Kiddie Land 2 with the 2K and after school students.  She loves to sing and has taken piano and guitar lessons. She is dating, Mike McLees, a really great young man who also attended Calhoun.
