Battle of the Books
At Concord we are excited about participating in Battle of the Books! This is a voluntary reading program for 4th-5th grade students to encourage reading good books while having fun competing with peers. Students form 4-person teams and each person is responsible for reading 3 to 5 books on the 10-book list. Students read the books between September-February. The competition will take place in late February. Dates and times will be announced in January.
What is the "Battle?"
A typical "Battle" will be held in tournment form, like College Bowl or Family Feud, in which students' teams earn points by answering questions about the books on the book list. Teams are assigned competition rounds with brackets, and play one team at a time. Winners of each Battle advance to the next round. The Championship round will be held in the gym with all 4th and 5th grade classes as their audience.
How does it benefit my child?
The students gain knowledge and enjoyment from reading good books, sharing them with friends, parents and teachers, plus a fun day of playing in the "Battle."
