Welcome to Calhoun Academy of the Arts!

My name is Mary Beth Carpenter and I will be teaching 2nd-5th grade strings, and Kindergarten and 1st Grade music.  I started teaching at Calhoun in 2020, and I am so excited to be in such a great environment!

My philosophy of music education can best be summed up by this quote by Plato: 

"I would teach children music, physics, and philosophy; but most importantly music, for the patterns in music and all the arts are the keys to learning."

I believe that music teaches more than just how to play notes on a page; it teaches aspects like leadership, responsibility, teamwork, and so much more. It is my wish to equip young musicians with all the tools they need to become the best they can be.
