I can still remember my first grade teacher. On the first day of school, I remember how scared I was walking into my new classroom. I remember my teacher standing at the front door and saying “Hello, Mistie.” I will never forget the things that she taught me, but more than that how she was a part of making me who I am today. I can only hope that my students walk away with the same desire to be all that they can be.
My goal is create a classroom environment that empowers my students to achieve success. I want them to become independent thinkers, learn responsibility, accept new and difficult challenges, and strive to do their personal best. I have high expectations for each child in that I hope that each and every one of them becomes life-long learners.
Communicating with parents is vital to extending this positive atmosphere of learning into students’ home environment. Parents should be involved in their child’s education. This shows the children just how important their education is to them. Teachers and parents should work together to make first grade an experience that students will treasure the rest of their lives.
I also feel that it is very important that the children have personal ownership in their learning experience. The teacher should provide the framework for learning, but the children should explore at their own pace and ability.
Each student has the ability and potential to learn and grow as an individual. It is very important to make the curriculum interesting to them, so they will want to learn and grow both academically and socially. This will be accomplished by incorporating individual student interests into the curriculum to the greatest extent possible.Welcome to First Grade
