• Welcome to 2nd Grade!

    About Miss Wilson:

Hi! Welcome to my page; I look forward to working with you and your children this year. This will be my 4th year of teaching, 2nd year at New Prospect. I'm originally from Maryland and have been living in South Carolina for 4 years. I am a dog momma to Rocky and Bandit who I love very much. When not teaching I love to cook, bake, tap dance, or read. If you have any questions, my contact information is below.

    Homework:

Every night, students are expected to complete their spelling work, and record their reading on their log that will be in their folders. While reading with your students, here are some things you can do:

    • Let your child do a "picture walk" through the story, making predictions about the story based on what they're seeing in the illustrations.
    • Listen to your child read the story.  Help using the strategies on the reference guides when needed.
    • Ask your student questions about what they read to check for comprehension.  Start with the basics - characters, setting, plot - then build to higher level questions - cause/effect, inference  and ALWAYS ask "why?/how do you know?"
    • Model reading fluency by reading the story aloud for your child, following the words with your finger as you read.  This is another chance for your child to hear what a good reader sounds like.

Our class will be using Google Classroom and the Remind app for all major class announcements, information, and assignments.
