Mrs. Young
Mrs. Young teaches 5th grade at Varennes Elementary. She has earned degrees from Anderson University, Erskine College, and Furman University. Prior to teaching at Varennes, she taught 6th grade ELA at Stephens County Middle School in Toccoa, Georgia (where she retired). Her teaching career has spanned over four decades, and she says she is blessed to still be able to enjoy the job she loves. Her desire is to help students succeed and awaken their superpowers with learning, which led her to begin teaching again, this time in Anderson School District Five.
Mrs. Young enjoys watching daily and weekly soap operas, shopping sprees, and mother-daughter trips. She also enjoys museums, fine dining, and being curled up with a nice, warm blanket watching Investigation Discovery when she is not leading the youth.
Mrs. Young says, "My teaching philosophy is that by displaying for students how to enrich their own thinking, teaching them skills on how to obtain knowledge beyond the classroom, and showing them the best ways to retain information will eventually lead them to getting along without me as the teacher. Teaching is not what I do; it is who I have become."
