Welcome to PLTW Biomedical Sciences at AIT
What is Biomedical Sciences?
Whether discovering new cancer treatments or teaching healthy lifestyle choices to their communities, today’s biomedical science professionals are tackling big challenges to make the world a better place.
PLTW Biomedical Science students are taking on these same real-world challenges – and they’re doing it before they even graduate from high school. Working with the same tools used by professionals in hospitals and labs, students engage in compelling, hands-on activities and work together to find solutions to problems. Students take from the courses in-demand knowledge and skills they will use in high school and for the rest of their lives, on any career path they take.
What courses are available?
Principles of Biomedical Sciences ( CP and Honors )
From design and data analysis to outbreaks, clinical empathy, health promotion, and more, students explore the vast range of careers in biomedical sciences. They develop not just technical skills, but also in-demand, transportable skills that they need to thrive in life and career.
Human Body Systems ( CP and Honors )
Through projects such as determining the identity of a skeleton using both forensic anthropology and DNA analysis, students examine the interactions of human body systems and apply what they know to solve real-world medical cases.
Medical Interventions (CP and Honors)
Students delve into activities like designing a prosthetic arm as they follow the life of a fictitious family and investigate how to prevent, diagnose, and treat disease.
Biomedical Innovations (CP and Honors)
Students build on the knowledge and skills gained from previous courses to design their own innovative solutions for the most pressing health challenges of the 21st century.

Mrs. Erin Drennon, RN, BSN
Well, hello there ! I am Mrs. Drennon and I am super excited to be joining the Anderson Institute of Technology family! I am the new kid on the block, but am bringing with me 13 years of teaching experience along with 4 years of nursing experience. Before beginning my teaching career, I worked as a Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery, Pediatrics, and Cardiology. I always found myself enjoying the teaching role in nursing leading me to my educator career. I am a coach's wife and a mother of three and just recently moved to the Anderson area from my hometown, Seneca. I am honored to also serve as a Master teacher with PLTW where I train other instructors to facilitate this biomedical curriculum in their own classrooms. When I am not at school, you will find me out on the lake, cheering on my favorite kiddo on the soccer field, or hosting friends and family at our home! I am looking forward to a great school year and know that together, we are going to create the best healthcare and bioengineering professionals of the future!
Class Schedule and Events
It's time to join HOSA! Don't forget to ask your teacher about how to join HOSA - our health science student organization. Meetings will be the 4th Wednesday of every month at 4:30 pm at AIT.
Students in Principles of Biomedical Sciences will be completing a field trip to the mobile lab unit with Greenwood Genetic Center in October !
Students in Medical Interventions will be traveling to Anderson University for a human cadaver lab field trip and to tour the simulation laboratory.
