Mrs. Crystal Garner
Cosmology can be a challenging profession, but I can testify that hard work and a positive attitude can lead to a very rewarding career. It all started for me as a junior in high school when I started the cosmetology program offered at the Abbeville Career Center. In 1987, I earned my SC State Board certified license and began working as an independent contractor until 1992. At this point, I had the confidence to open my salon, which I operated until 2005.
After selling my business, I returned to school to become a Registered Instructor of Cosmetology. I began my teaching career and worked as a college instructor at Greenville Technical and Virginia College, working with students anywhere from 18 to 58 years old. These students have very diverse life experiences, and I feel lucky to have had the chance to both teach and learn from them.
As much as I cherished the experience of working with college students, I cannot express how excited I was by the opportunity to develop and lead high school programs, and I look forward to providing high school juniors and seniors with the same opportunity given to me 35 years ago.
I have worked for Anderson 5 school district for ten years and Anderson Institute of Technology for three years. Year after year, I watch some of the most talented students successfully pass their board exams and become licensed. Students have the opportunity to compete for the state champion and move on to compete nationally. Watching my students succeed is why I teach today.
