Class Overview

Health Science 1 is a course for students who are interested in the healthcare field. Students are introduced to a variety of health careers and will select a career of choice to explore in-depth. Other topics include important qualities of health professionals, infection control, healthy lifestyles, and cultural diversity. Health professionals will also share their expertise in various careers.

Have you ever wondered what that diagnosis meant that the doctor gave? After learning medical terminology, students will be able to dissect word roots, prefixes, and suffixes to figure out the answer. We will study the body systems along with the anatomy and physiology of each through research, hands-on activities, videos, and computer programs.

Health Science Clinical Studies is a course designed for students who like hands-on and assisting others. This course requires transferring knowledge learned in the classroom setting and applying it in the clinical setting. Students will provide direct patient care, under my guidance, and have the opportunity to earn their South Caroline Nurse Aide Certification. This course gives students who desire to work as CNAs hands-on experience through an internship. Students who plan to enter the nursing field will have an advantage as they further their education.

Ms. Gail Nash

My name is Gail Nash and I am a Health Science Instructor. I have been teaching for 23 years and this is my second career. I have been a Registered Nurse for 33 years. Both of my careers are rewarding because I love helping, nurturing, and helping people succeed.

I have two adult children and one amazing grandbaby! I have two dogs which are both Boxers, named Sasha and Lacey. My daughter bought a dog which she said was a Chihuahua which now weighs over 50 pounds. She now lives with me as well and her name is Layla. One of my favorite places to go is the beach. The beach allows me to exhale, relax, and enjoy God's beauty. It is very romantic to me and my place of solitude. My favorite food is crab and I'll take them any way I can get them. My favorite color is black, but blues and purples are growing on me. I enjoy bargain hunting, riding motorcycles, organizing, traveling by plane, or just putting the roof back with the sunshine beaming in while rolling down the highway. I really enjoy reading but have little time to read for pleasure. The thing that is most important to me is family! I love family trips, dinners, games, and vacations! My jeans, tennis shoes, and a peaceful home are more of my favorite things. Enough about me! I can't wait to meet you and get to know each of you!
