Hello! My name is Jodie Shirley and I am thrilled to be part of the Midway Family. I was born and raised a North Carolina girl, around the tall pine trees and tobacco fields of Eastern North Carolina. After graduating high school I headed for the hills, literally. I earned my bachelors in Elementary Education from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC, nestled in the valley of the Blue Ridge mountains in western North Carolina. It was there I met my husband of now 23 years, Phil. We moved back to his roots in Seneca, SC to make our home and raise our family. We have two children, Emma who is now a freshman in college, and Corbin who is a sophomore in high school. During their growing up years I returned to school and received my Matsers in Administration and Supervision from Clemson University.
For my 22 years in education prior to Midway I worked in a program for autistic children, taught 4th and 5th grade, was a math interventionist, a math and science instructional coach for teachers, and a district STEM specialist with the office of instruction in Oconee county. My transition to Midway was perfect as I share a vision for good teaching and STEAM education. Every day at Midway is a good day because I get to be part of the best job ever, supporting teachers and playing a part in shaping instruction that is both engaging and preparing your students well for 21st century learning.
When I am not at Midway learning alongside your kids, I can be found at the soccer or football field, or at my children's many chorus performances. They are amazing! I personally enjoy reading, gardening, and refinsihing old furniture. There is just something really satisfying about restoring something to make it current and loved again.
I am proud to be your Assistant Principal and I will work hard daily to make learning great for your kids!
