Last school year, Heather Thore - School Librarian and AVID Site Coordinator at Robert Anderson Middle School, and (then) South Carolina Association of School Librarians (SCASL) President, created a new statewide program that fosters the development of leadership skills in new school librarians. In November of 2018, Heather was able to open applications for the new program in which she entitled "Emerging Leaders." The program works as a cohort where a small group of new school librarians expand their roles as leaders within their community as she provides them specialized professional development every other month and collaborative opportunitites.

In Februrary 2019, Heather was notified that the American Association of School Libraries chose her program to be a recipient of a grant to help get the program off the ground with a smooth start!

We join Heather, now Imediate Past President of SCASL, in being super excited that this program cohort continues to thrive! In March 2020, participants will "graduate" from the program and continue their leadership roles as they assist with leading a new chohort for the following year.

We're extremely proud of this display of leadership and the great representation of Anderson School District Five at the state and national levels through the accomplishment of this goal set and reached by Heather. Congratulations and many thanks to you, Ms. Thore!
