Anderson Five Superintendent Tom Wilson awarded, appointed by Governor Henry McMaster
NOVEMBER 2020 - Anderson School District Five Superintendent Tom Wilson has been appointed by Governor Henry McMaster to serve on the Education Commission of the States (ECS). As a Commissioner, Superintendent Wilson will represent South Carolina at the national level by providing insight as a practitioner, and by giving feedback and analysis on education policy initiatives.
The Education Commission of the States is a non-partisan entity which serves as a partner to policymakers in all 50 states by providing personalized support and helping education leaders come together and learn from one another. ECS focuses on providing support through credible research, timely and factual reporting, unbiased counsel, and collaboration among state leaders.
As a Commissioner, Superintendent Wilson will play an active role in facilitating two-way communication between South Carolina and the Education Commission of the States. His appointment recognizes him as a key figure in education policy whose leadership is critical for the ECS in identifying and sharing key state policy issues and proposed legislation; as well as for the state of South Carolina in pursuit of the state’s own education agendas.
Said Superintendent Wilson, “it is a great honor to be appointed for this role, and I look forward to collaborating with Senator Hembree and Representative Allison, along with Governor McMaster and the other Commissioners, on important education issues for our state and our country.”
Superintendent Wilson’s appointment by Governor McMaster began on November 4, 2020.
