Meet the Superintendent
Brenda Kelley is Superintendent of Anderson School District Five, where she leads a district of nearly 13,000 students and 2,000 employees. During her tenure with Anderson School District Five, Dr. Kelley has served in a variety of roles, including Deputy Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services, Executive Director of Early Childhood and Elementary Instruction, Principal, Assistant Principal, teacher, and teaching assistant. During her tenure as principal of Midway Elementary School, the school received an Excellent rating on the SC School Report Card.
She has also served on several South Carolina Department of Education task force committees, such as the Kindergarten Readiness Study Committee and Numeracy Screener Task Force, an achievement made possible by her leadership and dedication within the realm of early childhood education. As the instructional leader for the school district, Dr. Kelley built a strong program that emphasized academic growth, teacher efficacy and instructional leadership. Through this instructional vision, academic programs were more aligned with tiered interventions, thus creating greater academic success for all students. As school superintendent, her main goal is to give each student every opportunity possible to succeed, while doing so in a safe learning environment.
Dr. Kelley holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Clemson University, both a Masters and Education Specialist Degree from Furman University, and earned her Doctor of Education Degree in Educational Practice and Innovation from the University of South Carolina.
When not at work, Superintendent Kelley and her husband David enjoy spending time with their three children; Houston (Brantley), Jackson (Katie), and Ashlyn, and their grandchildren; Oaklyn and Henry.
